Victoria Chihumura

EDUCATION IS A RIGHT

A final year student in economics, sociology and political science in Galway, Victoria Chihumura came to Ireland from Zimbabwe. Her activism centres on advocating for the right of asylum-seekers to a full education in Ireland. At present, most direct provision residents cannot access a university education because they have to pay prohibitive fees, and have to be resident in the country for a set period of time. Having spent years in direct provision herself, Victoria wants to be a voice for others. She’s involved in NUIG’s University of Sanctuary, is active in her Students’ Union, and energised about equal opportunities in education for those in direct provision.
